Alleviating Pain with Dr. Oz & Montel Williams

First let me say I am an avid fan of Dr. Oz.  I try a lot of supplements and suggestions that are on his show.  So back on February 15, 2012 he had on Montel Williams from Living Well Montel www.montelwilliams.com Now I dont know if you know but Montel has suffered with MS for several years in excuriating pain.  Well on the Dr Oz show Montel spoke of some of the things he is doing to mitigate his pain.

  1. Ashwaganda  (Ah swa gan da)
  2. Rhodiola (Roe d oh la)
  3. Schisandra (Swa sandra)
Now when Montel mentioned that the last time he was on Dr. Oz Show the crew had to help him up into the chairs because of the pain he was in.  On this show he walked back a forth demonstrating he was not in pain.  And I believe he was not in pain, because when you live with pain you take a few steps as possible.

I am a Colorectal Cancer Survivor, due to the chemotherapy and radiation I went through my body was left with some creeky crunchy aches and pains.   I never knew pain like I have experineced in the last few years.  I would go to stand up and it would hurt, to bend down it hurt I would go to walk my dog and would have to shorten the trip because of the excruciating pain.  So when I heard Montel talking about some supplements that helped him, I thought I'm in.

The next day I went to my local health food store, www.thebetterhealthstore.com and purchased the above mentioned supplements.  It has been about two weeks and I will tell you my hips dont hurt, and I feel great.  I'm primarily taking the Ashwaganda & Schizandra.

Ashwaganda is an Ayurvedic Herb  and is best known for its restorative benefits. It has rejuvenating properties and enhances sexually potentcy for both men and women.  Research has shown that is has anti-inflammartory benefits along with helping your immune system.

Schizandra is an adaptogen herb from Chinese medicine.  Adaptogen herb have the ability to normalize and balance whatever the pathological state.  So if when you wake up in the morning you find you are sluggish, Schizandra will balance out the sluggishness and bring you centerpoint.  Or if at night you are all wond up and can get to sleep taking Schizandra will allow you to balance that anxiety and bring you back to centerpoint.

Rhodiola has been more beneficial for my husband and I will write on that at a later date.

Note, whenever I try a new supplement, I first do my research online at www.google.com then I read several articles, search around for a distributor.  And if I decide to try the supplement I usually get the lowest miligrams and take it for several days to see if I have any side effects.  If so, I immediately stop taking it, if not I will begin to increase the miligrams to the recommended dose.

As always check with your doctor.  Also recognize that the herbs mentioned in this article would be considered alternative medicine, so your western doctors may or may not be aware of what they are and attempt to scar you from their use.  That is why I like watching www.Doctoroz.com Dr. Oz is a western heart doctor who is willing to look at other cultures to find cures verses popping a pill with many side effects.
