Week Three Atkiins

So this is my third week on Atkins, and I must say any eating regimen you are on to help eliminate unwanted fat you must adhere to it daily.  I will admit I am so far off the beaten path that it is almost, I say almost ridiculous.  I have not been writing in my journal, been over eating, but at least I am not fooling myself as to why the scale has not continued to go south.  So this is still good.  Now for the reason I have not been doing my part to lose unwanted fat.

So I know you have heard when you get ready to do something life happens, well that is true. All good stuff. Now this is not an excuse.  But it is apart of what goes on when we want to become more fit.  Stuff happens, and one day, then two and before you know it, it becomes a week of no progress.  So back on aboard today.  My goal is 150 my the end of May, 2010.

We Fall Down, But We Get Back Up Again

So two weeks ago I started on Atkins.  My first week I had good success for the first 4 days, then I fell down off the plan.  My weakness turned out to be those dang gong giant pixy stixs.  They have 11 grams of sugar in one giant pixy stix.  Now I don't know if you know the conversion of grams to teaspoons but it is for every four grams it equals one teaspoon.  So one giant pixy stix has about 3 teaspoons of sugar.  During my first two weeks the goal was to get in no more than 20 net carbs from good stuff like veggies, not giant pixy stix that are high glycemic.  Remember high glycemic foods triggers the body to go into fat storing mode verses fat burning mode.

So this does not mean that I give up, it just means I have to adjust.  Even though I was not hungry I just wanted the pixy stixs because they were fun.  So now I can understand why people could fall off of their plan.  Not because the plan is not working, but because the food that they like not necessarily crave brings them great pleasure. 

So either I have to ween myself off the pixy stixs, plan for a pixy stix here and there or try another diet regimen.  So because I like the results that I have received from Atkins, I think I will give it another go and plan for a pixy stix as a treat.  Also I will get the 12 inch pixy stix and leave the 24 inch stix along.  So that will be my focus.

Motivational Story on Weight Loss

So as you know I am on Atkins and doing well.  I have a good freind who is on Weight Watchers.  He has been doing Weight Watchers since January 10, 2010 and he has lost 20 pounds.  So I was talking to him today and he was saying he had hoped for more results. 

We talked about if he was getting in enough water, if he was eating all his points, and not going over or under, along with he said he added 30 minutes of walking daily to his regimen.  So we went over everthing to keep him on track and then he told me something that I found motivational, and here it is:

He said he has been eating everything he has wanted to eat for the last five years, and now he was past that.  Pretty much he had been there and done that and now it was time to be accountable for his own health.  I was impressed.  This was the beginning of a new life for him.  He recognized eating everything he wanted when he wanted it with no regard for his body was not were he wanted to be physically. 

So I say to anyone that is struggling to get on board and take control of your physical health, how long have you been over indulging in a lifestyle that is conterproductive to who you want to be?  To my friend stay the course, you are averaging about 3 pds of week which is good.  I look forward to writing more articles about your success.  And please take some before and after pictures so we can show the world what you accomplished.

Burning Fat or Storing Fat, Which are You?

So since I have been on Atkins, somthing has become glaringly clear, our bodies are in constanst motion and we are either burning fat or we are storing fat.  Now I can see the since behind Atkins, Weight Watchers, Nutri System and the host of other diet regimens.  It is all about reducing high glycemic food combinations.
High glycemic foods puts your body in a fat storing mode immediately, while foods high in fiber and protein slow down that release of insulin into your gut.  And actually fat is not the culprit in your diet.  Fat is the result but not the culprit.

A lot of these diets are nothing more than science but they have to find a way to fit it into our lives as humans otherwise like so many people we would not be able to keep up with the science of the human body.  Now the real trick is, if you stay the course for six weeks or more you will inherently learn that very science about the bodies need for food and how to use it.

I used to think eating a bowl of grapes was nutrious only to a point, and once I exceeded that point nutrition became high glycemic.  You really have to know a portion size and what combination of foods yeild the results your body needs.  So in your spare time, read up on high glycemic foods and what they do to the process in the body.

Day Four Atkins back on Track

Whoo, I am back on track.  Today I weighed in at 176.7.   And I am back to journaling.  Today I am going to go and get more Atkins snack bars and shakes.  It comes in handy.  I think one of the reasons I fell off the program was I did not go a grocery shopping.  So not having the right tools in the house made for a bad day that lead to weight gain.  So I will make sure I do not run into that problem again.  I will start planning my meals for at least seven to ten days in advance.  That way it will help my success.

Day Three of the Atkins Journey

So day three I decided to wing it, not really journal, pretty much was going to eye it in.  Well I guess you can imagine what happenen?  Yupper Dupper I gained.  I thought sneaking in a 12 inch pixy stix and a one ounce bag of flamming hot cheetos over my eggs would not make a difference.  Not to mention I did not get in my recommended protein and I noticed nearly half the day I was craving junk.  So todays weigh in was 178.6.  Yep that was my original weigh in on Monday. 

Now I'm not upset or discouraged but this is what happens when you think you can wing it and not stay on the map.  Fortunately when you journal and keep track, it keeps you on track.  The other thing I learned that I think we all knew I gained it back twice as fast as it took to take it off. 

So I will be getting back on the plan and staying the course for the rest of the two week induction period.  I am sure I will still come out a winner, but that is a little lesson that I wanted to share with you.  Don't get discouraged if you fall, just get back up.  Hey dont forget to caught my show today on www.youtube.com/martivideo posted after 4:PM.  It will have hot topics, fitness and whatever I want to throw in.  Have a Great Day.

Day Two Atkins

So day 2 was great.  I noticed I did not crave sugar stuff.  Plus when I got on the scale this morning I weighed in at 176.7 which is pretty cool.  I do have a digital read out scale, which allows me to see to the 10th of a pound weight gain or loss.

Now if you are one of those people that spazes out if the scale goes up, then no I do not recommend weighing yourself everyday.  But for me I look at my body as a science project.  I want to document all the evidence. 

Yesterday I got a lot of my protein from eggs and cheese, so that's all there is to report today.  Oh yeah, remember I wanted my own talk show, well I decided to report about my weight program via Youtube along with some other cool topics.  So check me out at www.youtube.com/martivideo My first show will be uploaded 2.11.10.  Talk to ya soon.

First Day on Atkins

So yesterday I weighed in, I was 178.6.  So today when I weighed I was 177.6.  Now I probably wont weigh in everyday, but I did want you to see that day one of Atkins was actually working.  So here is what I did.  First I journaled everything that I ate including drinking water.  I even had a little tiny dum dum sucker.

I am beginning to understand why small meals are more condusive for the digestion.  If you want to control the amount of insulin released into your gut you have to slow down the quantity, frequency and type of food you send in.  Too much food, in high frequency without proteins, fats, or fiber will lead to you gaining weight.

Having to write down my eating activities helped me to monitor whether I had too much or too little intake.
I did get to the gym and did 35 minutes of walking along with working resistance training on my biceps and triceps.  Gotta get the guns ready.  And I did add 1/2 green apple.  I stayed at the required 20 net carbs.  The 20 net carbs is to help jump start my fat burning during the first two weeks. 

So I ate my first snack this morning, so now it is time for a meal.  Talk to ya lata.

Day One on Atkins

O'k so I am ready to start my Atkins Programs.  I have read my information and the next two weeks will be my Inductions period.  During this period I can lose up to 15 pounds.  It can vary from person to person.  So I will be reporting on my results. 

I have my jounal, mapped out the foods that I choose to eat, there are many options.
  • Salmon, Chicken, Beef, Eggs and maybe if I find the right bacon I might get in a slice or two here and there:)
  • Cheddar Cheese, Mozzarela, Parmesan and maybe Swiss.
  • Bok Choy, Celery, Cucumber, Mushrooms, Parsley, Poppers, & Romaine Lettuce.
  • Atkins Shakes and snack bars.
Now I could eat a lot of other foods, but those are the ones that I choose during my two week INduction period.  This period is design to reduce the bad empty carbs out of your diet so you body will stop being a fat storing machine and jump start to a fat burning machine.  Some of the expectations according to Atkins are:
  • Weight Loss
  • Reduced Bloating
  • Flatter Tummy
  • Fat Loss, Muscle Retention
  • Satiety & appetite Reduction
  • Reduce sugar cravings, not to mention increased energy.
So I will post my starting weight tomorrow along with what I will be eating.
